Welcome to the library catalog of the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History. Our holdings focus on Chinese history, Jesuit missions of the Late Ming and early Qing dynasties, (c. 1500-1800), and East-West cultural, scientific, and religious exchange. The Ricci Institute Library on the Lone Mountain Campus is physically separate from the Gleeson Library/Geschke Learning Resource Center, which also holds many important primary sources and reference items in English and other Western languages. Library access is limited. Please see Restrictions.

Basic Search Instructions:

  • You may search by AUTHOR, by TITLE, by SUBJECT and/or by KEYWORD in any combination. Type in all or any part of a name, title, subject, and/or keyword. Hit “ENTER or click "SEARCH" to submit your query.
  • Search terms are not case sensitive.
  • Ignore initial articles for Western languages: A, An, The, Los, L’, Le, etc.
  • Diacritical marks are optional, e.g. either colecção or coleccao, Schütte or Schutte, etc.
  • Click on the small blue triangles next to a title to open Quick View, a truncated display with author, date, location, and call number. Click on the title itself to view the complete record.
  • You may search in Chinese (traditional characters only), Japanese, or Korean for CJK language items.
  • You may search Chinese names, titles, and terms in pinyin romanization. You must use aggregated words, e.g. Zhongguo gudai Tianzhujiao, not Zhong Guo Gu Dai Tian Zhu Jiao. See HELP for more information on CJK romanization.
  • You may browse through a list of titles by clicking the first title letter on the Titles Index bar.
