Ad Dudink notes: “... although a bilingual edition, the Chinese text is the primary one; people who do not read Chinese ... should be aware that the English translations of specific terms are not always correct; e.g. ‘monasteries’ should read ‘seminaries’; other examples are found on p.29-30: ... should read “was the translator of Taixi shuifa ‘Western hydraulics’. “Xu Ji, son of Xu Guangqi, had to go to negotiate with local Catholic bishop” (in 1641 there were no Catholic bishops in China); with the Catholic priest Francesco Brancati / “Tianzhujiao Pan Guoguang shenfu” for holding a big funeral; non-religious people joint together (read: both Christian and profane [rites, ceremonies] were used / sheng su bing yong in the funeral so as to satisfy all of the participates (participants).--EUCHINA listserv 6-6-2006
